HOUSE INHERITED BY WIFE DURING THE MARRIAGE

Very positive results in following case yesterday:

I represent husband in long term marriage.  Wife inherited expensive home without mortgage 18 years ago.  Husband worked and paid all bills on home- taxes, insurance, utilities, etc.- during marriage.  Wife worked minimally and paid very little.  Wife alone on deed for entire period.  We asserted that husband had 50% beneficial interest in home.  Wife disagreed.  We stated that if forced to litigate that we would ask for home to be sold.  If settled by agreement husband was willing to allow wife to stay in home indefinitely and not force sale.  Wife agreed to put husband on deed as joint tenant with right of survivorship.  Husband very pleased with this result.  More work to be done but this is a very positive development.
